Teachers
When it comes to a young child, there is nothing more important than finding a teacher that is a good match for your child. Lost time cannot be replaced, and is lost for ever.
A good resource for finding a music teacher is the website of the
Virginia Music Teachers Association. Click on 'Participate'. I also may be able to recommend a teacher in one of the communities I serve if I feel that I know a teacher that would be a good match.
There is no substitute for proper instruction. Bad habits learned early on may be difficult to break later on and the time spent to unlearn such habits could be better spent learing more advanced technique. Almost as important as finding the 'right' teacher, is that the student is observed by a parent during practice. Take a look at the
Robert Bond Kelly Studio web page for a very good description of both the role of a parent and to learn what is expected of students.
